Outfits, Posing, Location: How to Plan a Dreamy Engagement Session (Without the Stress)
Modern Romantic Tips from Love, Violeta Rose
You're engaged! Now what? Aside from soaking up every minute of this special season, it’s time to think about how you want to remember it forever. Engagement photos are more than just a pre-wedding tradition—they’re an opportunity to capture your relationship in its most natural, joyful, and honest form.
Here are a few essentials to help you plan a session that feels true to you:
Choose a Season That Feels Different From the Wedding
Many of my couples pick a season or location that contrasts with their wedding vibe. Want spring blossoms or fall leaves? Or a casual city stroll vs. a more formal wedding venue? We’ll spend about 1–2 hours together, so let’s make that time visually unique and deeply personal.
2. Pick a Location That Tells Your Story
Forget cookie-cutter spots. Think: where did you first meet, have a meaningful date, or just love to hang out together? Your home, your go-to bar, or even a park bench can make the perfect backdrop. If you're stuck, don’t worry—I’ve got ideas and I'm always down to scout with you.
3. Time It Right: Golden Hour or Soft Morning Glow
Light is everything. The best times to shoot are early morning just after sunrise or about two hours before sunset. Don’t stress about cloudy skies though—overcast light can be soft, romantic, and so flattering.
4. Outfits: Go for Confidence, Not Costume
I recommend two looks: something you'd wear on a cute date night, and a more relaxed outfit. But if one feels best—go for it! Solids, earth tones, and quiet patterns photograph beautifully. Shoes? Comfort first. We walk, we move, we have fun.
5. "But We’re Awkward in Photos…"
That’s what everyone says. And that’s exactly why my sessions are full of movement, laughter, and prompts that feel natural. My goal is to help you feel like yourselves, not models. You'll walk away feeling closer and with photos that reflect your love, not a photoshoot.
BONUS TIP: Bring the Pup, Pop the Bubbly
Want to include your dog? YES. Thinking of toasting with champagne? Please do! This is your date night with a photographer third-wheeling—make it memorable.
